Posted - 03/23/2008 : 09:10:14 AM Where has everyone gone? I thought this would be the site where everyone who had a Carver Mariner could chat, discuss, exchange ideas and help each other with tips and advice for free with few constraints. There seems to be very little activity here and I wonder at times should I continue to pay for the site if its not going to be used. I see many members appearing regularly on other non carver sites so perhaps there is a need for something to get this site more attractive. Tell me what it is as I don't really want to shut it down but its not worth the effort if nobody wants to use it. What are your thoughts on this. Regards Paul

Posted - 03/31/2008 : 08:11:35 AM Jerry, What are you doing to your stuffing box? I need to replace my stbd shaft stuffing box. The previous owner or some hammer mechanic used a ball peen hammer to remove the shaft coupling. The surface that mounts to the v-drive was really a mess. The shaft runout at the stuffing box was .035" packing nut is worn out. I machined the face of the coupling but need to replace the stuffing box. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Being a v-drive space is at a premium!!!

Posted - 03/30/2008 : 09:19:19 AM Hi Paul - I'm a newbie to this site. Just joined 3 days ago. Please don't shut down this site, its been a great source of info for me. Just bought my Carver Mariner last fall. I've been a boat owner all my life. I'm still getting used to the new boat so this site has been very helpful. I'm at the boat every weekend rain or shine. My wife thinks I'm nuts but it's in my blood. I'im sure you can relate. Thanks for keeping this forum going. Ciao Mike

Posted - 03/30/2008 : 08:12:21 AM Thanks guys, I was starting to think we had lost our dedicated Carver fans. the snow has stuck around here to and I am still unable to get to the Sea Weed yet, and this time last year had her uncovered and was working on her. Lets hope the summer is long to make up for it. kind regards Paul

Posted - 03/29/2008 : 10:53:28 PM Paul, don't loose faith. With this global warming bull it still isn't warm enough in Oklahoma to go boating comfortably. The Overdraft is high and dry on the lift and ready to go. We have been having lots of rain here lately and our lake level has been changing quite a bit which brings along lots of debris. So best to keep the props dry and straight.

Posted - 03/27/2008 : 8:25:32 PM This forum is a wonderful source of information for those of us who are relatively new to boating. It may be a while before I have anything valuable to post so for now it is best that I just read and learn; and I have learned a great deal from the many members here who have more experience. Paul you have done an amazing job and your efforts are much appreciated. Thanks to all. Ron |

Posted - 03/24/2008 : 5:31:23 PM Hi Steve, I know the feeling about the weather. Its still -6 deg here and lots of ice and snow everywhere but the good news is the river is starting to thaw so lets hope spring will be here soon for real. Good luck with your project and I'm sure we would all love to hear how you are progressing. Thanks again Regards Paul

Posted - 03/24/2008 : 11:18:07 AM Hi Paul, I am sure many are 'around' and lurking to see whazzup here... I know I have always checked in once or twice a week anyway lol. Biggest news here is that last fall I committed to work on my Carver and at least get it done enough to get her floating this Summer, even if not finished. The intent is to get her 'usable'. To this end I built a huge (eventually with the City's blessing) 'tent' around the boat last September and worked a bit until it got to cold end Nov. Did a couple of things in my small workshop over the Winter, and if Spring ever does come around in North Ontario it should be warm enough to get back in the tent for the big push with co-operating weather. There is a Huge amount of work still to be done ;-). If the time is there, I could perhaps continue to document a bit on the pages I started back in 2005? Has it been that long? I know I stopped work on her for two years, so guess that is right... Wow how time flies. But at this point it was either do 'er or git 'er outta the yard and into the bone yard - so crazy me will Do 'er lol. Have a great Spring! ~ Steve
