OK, this is an age old problem for me so I thought I'd ask you guys about it. My 1987 Voyager 28, as most of you know, has hidden skuppers under the cock pit deck sections. The theory being, rain water runs down the cracks between the three sections, collects in the "V" braces and channels and runs out the skuppers. Good theory except that it just doesn't woork very well and I get water in the bilge every time we have a hard rain.
I am assuming that at least some of you have the same problem so are you aware of any fixes? I really don't want to have to keep a cockpit cover or rain fly on all the time. I really like the open air and sunshine. If the rain would drain adequately, the rain doesn't really bother me much. But I HATE WATER IN THE BILGE!!
Any ideas?

Another problem that caused a problem is the volume of rain, where on a normal rain OK, but downpour I have a problem.
Well, living in Florida, we seldom have "normal" rain. Especially in the summer and Hurricane season, it's always afternoon thunderstorm down pours. Result? WET BILGE! Eck!! I hate it. But, I am determined to find a cure and will let everyone know what it is when I come up with it.

You are right, it’s an old problem. I have worked very hard on getting a dry bilge and have done a few items including looking for cracks in scuppers and adding additional drain holes and drainage tubes. I haven’t been 100% percent successful, but it is much better than before. Some was due to years of stuff weighing down the boat and how the boat rests in the water. A slight tilt in the boat either port or starboard or bow or stern or any combination that disturbs the flow of the drainage will case water in the bilge. Another problem that caused a problem is the volume of rain, where on a normal rain OK, but downpour I have a problem.
One item that drove me nuts and it wasn’t until I put a hose on it and got down in the bilge was a hole in the engine hatch was in alignment with the scupper below so it should be OK. But the problem was (which I think I fixed) was like pouring water out of a pan and the water runs around the edge of the pan and following the contour of the pan before dropping off. Same problem the water went through the hold but followed the contour of the hold some missed the scupper and right into the bilge.

Rain, what's rain?
You mean that wet stuff that falls from the sky?
We don't get any here, but when I wash it out with a hose, I have the same problem.
I would hate to see what a wave over the back would do.

My drain holes were very small about 1/2 inch and the collector under is huge I elongated my holes to about 2 inches with a dremel tool drains quickly now and leaves ect. don't plug it as easy. Mine in a 74 montery but it probably did not change to much. If you can see whats below you may be able do do something simular.
