Posted - 06/23/2009 : 10:17:48 PM Hi I'm posting for a freind, he has a 28' carver mariner, he put a windlass for the anchor on the bow and is wondering where to best route the wiring. Is there a routing tube or tunnel? should it go under the gunnel and around the outside? He's also looking at running the wire through the front cabin headliner, seems a bit dodgy to me. I haven't seen the boat personally and am not familiar with the layout.
thanks if anyone has a tip where to look. cheers, Gerard.

Posted - 06/24/2009 : 08:11:48 AM On my boat I ran the 8awg windlass power wires under the floor down the center of the boat from the engine compartment all the way to the bow. The wires are attached to the wood frame that supports the floor and follow the same basic path as the fresh water pipes. In the bow the wires travel under the fresh water tank and 'v' berth up into the anchor rode locker where they attach to the windlass.
On the Mariner there should also be a couple wiring tubes that go from the flybridge down through the head and into the bilge. The steering and shifter cables also pass through in the same area. It is possible to route wires following the same path so that the windlass control switch can be located at the helm.
It should not be necessary to modify the headliner or have wires visible anywhere in the cabin. You may have to pull up a few staples and lift the carpet from the floor, but much of the work can be accomplished simply be removing drawers and reaching through the cabinets.
