Posted - 08/18/2009 : 4:13:58 PM Hello all,
It has been a long time since I have posted on here and even longer since I have taken out the boat. This last weekend I finally was able to take Bluto out for a cruise and fell in love all over again. Calm seas, sunny skies, dolphins, the whole thing- It was awesome. I have been slacking on some of the basic maintenance and thought that a remote oil filter would help. I am way too big and impatient to change them where they sit so I am going to hire a guy to put in remotes. Has anyone dones this? I was thinking a basic PH8A set up would work but would appreciate any input from you all on mounting locations and kits to buy.

Posted - 08/18/2009 : 11:14:43 PM Thanks again, Bob. I bought a cheapo harbor frieght oil pressure test kit a while back that I will just put on there long enough to get a reading. If it turns out the pressure is actually as low as the gauge is reading (12 psi @ 1000rpm) (19 psi @ 2000rpm) I will have to put a new oil pump in the pan when the guy does the remote filter work. Things could get expensive... on a boat! Imagine that!
-Appreciate all your help. |

You could tee in a temporary mechanical pressure gauge there. I would only use the gauge as a temporary tool, and would not leave it there. Too great a risk of a leak.

Posted - 08/18/2009 : 5:24:27 PM Thanks for the response and photos! I have enjoyed checking out your repower progress. I am not sure wether I am more jealous of the fact that you have your engines out or the fact that you get to drive that Bronco that is in your garage. I like the idea of keeping the filter close with a bracket on the the tranny. I put some monster Racor fuel/water seperators a few months ago and mounted them to the engine compartment side of the stair into the cabin. I was considering putting the oil filters next to them but the extra oil to fill the length of hose and elevation change just didn't make sense. My life would be so much easier if I could just take my engines out for the weekend!
On a side note- I wanted to check the oil pressure at the engine as I think my gauge may be defective on the stbd side. Any idea which plug is the oil pressure sending unit? I guess I am glad it was not a mechanical gauge, but it would have made things a lot easier.
Thanks agian- Rusty |

Posted - 08/18/2009 : 4:34:08 PM Rusty, My Crusaders came with remote oil filters. These photos might help.

I one thing I don't like is the fact that they are mounted horizontal. They make a mess when changed. I may try to remount them vertical when I put the engines back together.

Fuel filter in the other side.
