Well, we finally bought our Carver.
1989 28' Voyager. Needs some TLC, but this is my two year project
to get ready.
Has anyone changed the saloon lay out? We are looking a removing
both the seating areas, make one "U" shaped seating on one side
and maybe a free standing chair on the other.
We are not too worried about sleeping a lot of people, but want
to be as comfortable as posable when spening time on the boat.

You bet buddy.
Get a plane ticket to Durango for yourself and your better half. I have room at the house, so room and board are free.
I could sure use your help, no doubt..... This is my first twin engine, so if I'm left on my own, I may be going in circles for weeks..... so get your butt up here.
BTW, so sorry to hear about your mom.. how are you holding up?

Got most of the exhaust installed, holly crap this stuff is heavy.
Hope I never have to remove this stuff with the engine installed in the boat.

Finally got the new center style exhaust manifolds and risers, two oil coolers and one alternator on order... almost 2 grand with shipping :-( ouch.
Should be here on Friday. :-)

Well, since she's already on a trailer, when you splash her the first time, pull her to Florida first and splash her here. Then we can head to the Bahamas for about a month or so.

OK, I finally got the hubs off the prop shafts. Wow, what a pain.
Had to install a puller, and then heat the hub with a propane torch, tighten the puller some more, heat some more, then hit it with a BFH.
Removed the packing, gland and old hoses. Have new stuff on the way.
I decided to go with the GFO packing and see how that works.
I can't get the props off the shafts to save my life, so I think I'll
leave them for now.
Really would like to splash this thing by May.

The trailer came with the boat, so I'm not sure who or how it was built.
Most boat trailer company's can built a trailer for you with just a year/Make/model.
About the borrowed trailer. Be VERY careful.
If the trailer as built for a larger (longer) boat, and you try to hang your boat off the back, you may loose some or all of your tongue weight. VERY BAD.
The trailer tongue weight should be about 10 to 15% of the combined boat and trailer weight.

The bunks could be raised up some. I was hoping that by not pulling up on the trailer so far it may work. I will get some pictures this weekend. Thanks. Was your trailer custom made for your boat? |

The trailer could be a challenge. Are the bunks adjustable?
Is the trailer set up for inboards?
Mine has an open area at the rear for the running gear.
Can you get some photos of the trailer you want to use?

Bob,
I just purchased a 1984 mariner friday. It is in a wit slip currently but I am interested on trailering it home during the winter. Tell me about your trailer. I have access to a friends trailer. He has a 31 ft center console he tows. This trailer has a 15,000 lb capacity. Im just unsure with the mariner being in board about clearance when loading. Im thinking the bunks would have to be higher? |

Last 34'er was a Sea Ray. Before that had a 32'er that was a Carver.
Lots of reasons for the down size; empty nest, retired, boat at lot alone, new residence requires passing under a 16' bridge to get to my house, etc. Mostly mental masterbation.
But, i ahve to say, I like this boat as much or more than any other boat I've ever owned.
