Hi carver owners, I need to replace about four safety railing base fittings. Has anyone replaced these I'm open to suggestions. I don't want to tear apart the v-berth to get at the nuts. I'm planning on grinding off the old screws & making threaded spacer plate to bolt the new fitting to. Also has anyone bought new or used ones, they appear to be 60*? Thanks, Dale

Hey Dale, I have replaced about half of mine with Stainless ones. They are 60 Degrees. I found them new at www.surplusunlimited.com for about $8 or $9 each. That is MUCH cheaper than the local stores. Surplusunlimited will take about a week to get them to you. I have a few I could let you use until you get them, if you are in a hurry to get it done.
Getting to the nuts is definitely a chore, they are usually half buried in fiberglass. Have replaced many of them whenever I have had access to the nuts, just to get them done. (PS Retrieving a dropped wrench behind the panels is NO fun! Tape a wire or string to any tool before you use it! lol)
Two of the holes will line up, for example the front two, and the rear two will be further back, so you will have to chalk the existing holes and drill new ones. Side to side they are just slightly wider, front to rear about 1/4" wider spacing.
Are you going to use longer bolts and the threaded plate on the inside? I haven't done my V berth ones yet, may be interested in your solution. Rockmeister
