I'm thinking of buying an 87 28 ft Carver voyager with twin 5.0 crusaders. At her suggested cruising speed of 18 knots, how much gas should she use per hour? Thanks. Jim

I have exactly the same boat and at 18 kts, bottom clean, engines freshly tuned, I get about 1 mpg. It can be effected up or down by wind, waves and current but that's about it.

I just topped up the tank with 68 gallons of gas. That took us about 75 miles, on plane at 2800 RPMs, at an average speed of 14 knots.

| Remember that a Canadian (imperial) gallon is larger than a US gallon. |

OK, just completed a 516 mile nice, but not quite as planned, boat trip. I ran a combination of slow cruise (7.5 to 8.5 kts) and on-plane cruise (16.5 - 18.5 kts) in fairly equal proportions, 50/50.
So, 516 miles, burned a total of 459.67 gallons of gas for an average of 1.1225 mpg.
In my books, not too bad.
