I have a Raritan hot water heater on board my 79' 2896 Mariner. When i connected the water supply last week, allowed it to fill up, then flipped the switch on the AC power panel to the hot water heater. No hot water. The fuse is good.
If the element is bad on these heaters, does the whole thing shut down?
What does an element cost these days?
Other things to check?

I also have a 79 2896 Mariner and had to replace the round heater with the square on. Try boatfix.com for good price.
The job is not too bad. One screw in the rear was tough to get out because of rust and location. The heater was leaking so element replacement was not an option. You can test the element by putting a meter across the element connections (power off) and see what the resistance is. If the connection is open the element is shot. If you have resistance the element could be OK and you have another problem.

I'm pretty sure Raritan still makes a similar model. On my older boat I had replaced the original 1975 model with a Sears 10 gallon unit back in the early 90s...
I don't think you can replace the element on these units...

Brad,
I would suggest you call Raritan. They have changed the model number for that tank, but only because they started making them in house about 15 years ago. They still make all the parts for them, and if you tank is in good shape, a new coil will be a whole lot cheaper than a new tank. Their customer support is great and they are very willing to help.

Agree totally with calling Raritan. Their customer service department is great.Maybe all you need is a new element.
Have you used a volt meter to make sure you have power at the heater. You said the breaker is good but that doesn't necessarily mean the circuit is good.
If you find you will need to replace the entire unit I recommend watching eBay. I found an all stainless steel Sealand 11 gallon unit with heat exchanger for $210 in April. Brand new in the box.

The thermostat could also be bad, mine was.
Found a replacement at Home Depot pretty cheap.
79 28' Mariner twin inboard V-drive.

| I replaced my hot water tank that really stunk bad with an on demand hot water unit and I love it but I had to change the breaker to a 30 because there are other things on that same circuit. |

What kind did you install? I looked at those but found the power demands just way to high. Would love to know what you installed and how it works for you.
