Hey Ron,
Most sensors/guages are one wire, I doubt that is your issue.
Is there a switch to switch helm stations?
The factory wiring worked at one time so the way it is wired will work if everything else is correct.
Look for switches, fuses, bad guages, bad connections at the terminations, etc.
Bad grounds are also a common issue.
The guage uses the ground for the other wire.
There must be a good ground from the upper helm back to the engine block for the guage to work.
The first rule of troubleshooting is "Check the easy stuff first!".
