Guys, when I get back to work on my "little" project, I need to find two new coolers.
One had the original cooler with a 90 deg. outlet and welded to a three legged mount.
The other engine had a "after market" cooler that had a straight upward facing outlet. This cooler has no mount, so the PO had reused the original mount and hose clamped the cooler to it.
My question is;
Is there a better cooler to use?
Is the newer U cooler used for both trans and engine oil?

Any ideas are more than welcome.

Thanks
Bob

I also will be reworking both the carburetor and ignition systems.
Are the original systems worth an overhaul, or is there a better set up out there?

The distributors are electronic and don't use points.
They all worked as far as I know. (I ran both engines on the "muff" before we riped them out).

Thanks
Bob

OK,
I have two new major rebuild kits for the sea water pumps. One pump was in bad shape but had not lost any impeller. The other pump was in good shape, and most of the parts will be saved as "spares".
Have two Rochester Quadrajet overhaul kits from Cliff Ruggles. Really nice kits, have everything needed. I also got his book, although I don't think I will be hot rodding these things, it does help with the OH and tuning.
Can't find any reman kits for the Carter fuel pumps, so I think I will replace the Tygon clear sight tubes, and run the old pumps for a few years more.
Will get after the starters and alternators later. (I worked for a reman shop when I was a teen, so hopefully I can reactivate some old brain cells).

Still need to remove the prop shaft couplings and rework the packings, but my back will not be up for that type of work for awhile.

While you're at it go with dripless seals. You'll be VERY glad you did.

Bob,
I was thinking of using the "clay" type packing.
Is that your referring to, or do you recommend the ceramic seal type?

Thanks
Bob

OK, my box of parts is coming along. Can't wait to get started re-assembling these things.

And now, thanks to Bob, I need to find some new exhaust manifolds

Kidding Bob.

Looking good! Now, what you need are chrome valve covers! Make it POP!

Nice job!

I did look into them, They are fairly inexpensive, but I'm a little worried about the clearance with the exhaust manifolds. I will wait and see when I get them installed.
