Hi all, This forum is great, I'm a shipwright and wooden boatbuilder with a beautiful lapstrake Carver 2880. Is there a way to upload pics onto the forum? She is truly well taken care of with a built 351 coupled to a Warner 1:1 V-drive. The only major problem I had was a pinhole in one of the tanks. I temporarily replaced it with a new poly tank from West Marine, but I plan on welding up twin aluminum tanks for her.
Can anyone tell me why I'm having a hard time finding any information on a 1973 2880 that is lapstrake (not fiberglass). I've looked all over, but I doubt I have the only one...
Hi Solomgrundy, welcome to the forum. You posting is titled Mariner 2880 ?? Is your boat a mariner or a monterey as the 2880 is a Monterey not Mariner.. In 73 there was no 2880. This model ia a monterey which ceased production in 72 when the last 2880 was made.
If it is a Mariner you refer to, it is a 2890 Mariner which were made in 72 and 73 with the lapstrake hull. In 73 the only two 28 models were the Mariner 2890 wood hull and the Commodore 2845 which was the first of the 28 foot glass hulls. No 28 foot Monterey was made in 73. In 74 they made the first glass hull Mariner which is a 2895 and continued the wooden deck and cabin untill 76 when the deck was glass and most of the cabin. This was the 2896 model. Below is the 73 Mariner 2890 and the 72 Monterey 2880 Hope this helps. Regards Paul
Mitch, Thanks for the info. I definitely have the 2890. It is in amazing shape given her age...any idea how many were made? Is there some way to find out the powering options that were available? Do you know if these were all production or were they semi-custom? I have only seen outdrives on the boats I've found. Another Q... Do you think $7500 would be a fair price to ask for her on a newer (2005)triple axle trailer?
Not that u asked me, but seems a good deal to my eyes... the trailer is worth three grand any day imo ... and if the boat is plunk in the water ready... sweet!
