I have a '74 Monterey! These boats are pretty scarce. Does yours have the flybridge option, or does it have the teakwood mast on the salon roof?
The rub rail that was originally on my boat was a strip of solid aluminum about 1" wide. It had a slight outward curve to it. My boat came with a few pieces of this original rail but not a complete set. If your boat's rail has one with an insert, I would be inclined to believe that it was an afermarket rail.
I do have the complete rub rail set from a 1978 28' Mariner. It may be the same size and shape since the 1974 Monterey and 1978 Mariner used the same hull design. It is also a solid aluminum strip.

| It had a bad bad flybridge that I have since parted with (would not clear bridge by my marina so not a terrible thing) you can contact me at turizziani@yahoo.com to discuss parting with your rubrail sounds like it would be a great addition to this long restoration thanks again |

I like the look of the Monterey better without the flybridge. The pictures I have seen of the flybridge look kind of flimsy perched up on the hardtop. This post has a good picture of the 28' Monterey in 1973 when it was still a wood boat: http://carvermitch.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~501.asp
I will email you about the rub rail. It is the last thing that is still on my parts boat that is worth saving.

Yes. I just stopped out and took a few pictures. It is all there and is pretty straight. It has some scuffs and scratches on it, however. There is also one spot on the port side that has had about 10" replaced. I took photos of the worst areas of the rail. They are where you would expect, in the 4 "corners" of the boat.
I imagine the rail could be polished and would look pretty good if someone was willing to put a little work into it. The aluminum should shine almost like stainless steel if kept polished. I would not want any money for the rail itself, just compensation for shipping it. (This boat has already paid for itself at least 10 times over with the abundance of parts I have taken off it.) Shipping could be a little pricey since the pieces are at least 10' long. I looked up Wakeman hoping it was near Toledo since that is only about 2 hours away from Port Huron. No such luck.
If you drive up here, maybe you would want to pick up another flybridge for your boat!

The rail looks much much better than mine. Are you willing to check out what shipping would be? If reasonable I would glady pay to get it here I'm sure it will clean up just fine. Shoot me an e-mail with the shipping fee and hopefully I can get the last good part off the boat
thanks in advance Brian |

I'll get the rub rail removed and get a shipping quote.
Does your boat have the teak toerail that mounts on the deck just outside of the bow rail stanchions?
Mine is missing and a few photographs of one would help.

Hey Guys,
Have a place you could drop off & pick stuff up near Toledo if that would help. Would keep ya from having to meet at a particular time. If this would help, let me know.

That is a very nice looking boat. It is interesting for me to see the pics of a plywood deck / fiberglass hull Carver. Paul who started this forum had one the Natalie J, but moved on to a '78 Mariner with the glass deck.
It looks like your boat has had better care than mine over the years. Mine was a project boat for the 2 previous owners and neither of them had the time or money to finish anything. The boat just sat around collecting debris. As a result the teak taffrail and toerail and mast and livewell cover were all mistakenly burned up as firewood and the interior was trashed. The only really nice thing on my boat was the hull itself. I took samples of the core and stringers and they were rock solid and bone dry. I was astounded to find this since the bilge was filled with rotting leaves and pooled water. The engines were an unknown since they had not been run in up to 8 years.
As it turned out my engines are strong. I spent most of last summer getting the boat cleaned up and usable. This past winter and spring I have been undertaking all of the cosmetic restoration. For the last week or so I have been in the phase where I am actually putting things back together instead of taking things apart.
I will try to get the rub rail removed, measured, and weighed in the next few days.
Brett

I do have a quick question. Does it say in the manual why the fuel gauge is on a switch?
