Has anyone tried to remove their flip back bridge seat and replace it with a nice helm chair (or two). I think it would be much more comfortable and the visibility would improve as well.
What would I be screwing into on my 1987 Voyager?

When I bought my Voyager the first thing I did was take out the "flip-flop" bench and install a Tracy International helm chair. MUCH better and more comfortable.

I used #12 X 2" screws to mount it and have had no trouble with loosening at all. You are screwing into a balsa core.

One tip, be sure to use a good marine sealer in each screw hole and around the perimeter of the base to keep water out.

One other thing, the floor of the fly bridge is slanted to port for drainage just a bit so, unless you use a leveling block of some sort, your chair will lean to port. it's not that much and doesn't bother me one little bit but I just wanted to point that out in case you want to address it.

I just replaced my swing bench with 2 helm chairs also. There was not enough room under the upper deck floor to use any of the anchoring systems or backking plates, so I used 1/4 x 1 1/2 screws. As noted, I applied 4000 sealant on each screw and around the pedestal base. This is he first year with the chairs, but no problems so far. I did position the mate's chair slightly aft of the captain's because the dash extends out at that point. I did not bother with the crown adjustment because they were close enough to center line to not matter much. We used the Todd 1000 chairs.

Here's a photo, not too good, showing my bridge and helm chair.

Looks like you removed all of the original bridge seating and replaced with a helm chair and a couple of other chairs? You must have a ton of room up there now. Can't wait to do a mine.
Your boat looks great. I'm in the process of compounding and waxing might now. Figured I should take advantage while it's not in the water. I'm having the starboard side stuffing box packing replaced with a dripless like the port side already is..

Only removed the helm bench. Those two blue things are just folding cushions. I removed the rail pads all the way around and use those instead. LOTS more comfortable.

But, yes, removing that helm bench and putting in the helm chair makes it way more roomy.
