I have a couple pics of our '86 Carver Mariner taken on the water last weekend. She's a work in progress, but after several months of back breaking labor (and several thousand dollars in canvas) she's finally all cleaned up and in good enough condition to show.
She resides at the Ox-Bow Marina on the CT River in Northampton, MA. We've been enjoying every weekend at our 'water front cottage' since she was splashed in May. Wife and baby are in the foreground of the last picture :)

Wow, looks great.
Is that a propane locker on your swim platform? If so, where did you get it?
Thanks Bob

Thanks for the compliments!
Bob, That's just a fiberglass storage box that came with the boat. Not sure of it's intended use, but I use it as a rope locker. It also makes boarding nice as it's level with the floating dock.

| Steve, great looking boat and the canvas is beautiful! Wonder if you could let me know about your radar arch. The fiberglass on my Mariner is very thin in the area where your arch is mounted. I was wondering if you see any cracking or issues with this location, or was it beefed up in some way? I currently have a mast that has supports mounted in this area and are starting to crack. But I would love to switch to an arch, as our marina in CT does not have shore power and I would love to put some solar panels up there. Thanks a bunch, Jerry |

Jerry, The arch feels very strong - like I could hang from it without causing any damage. I don't see any spider cracks around the mounts. I don't think it was installed at the factory because it's not listed on the original order (boat still has all original paperwork and manuals), so someone must have had it installed at a later date.
Perhaps they found a way to access that area to install backing plates? Maybe through the ceiling in the cabin? I'll see if the previous owner knows anything about it.
Solar panels is a good idea. I've been trying to think of something worth while to install up there.

Might be a bit of an eyesore but I can't justify the cost of a central system, and since we spend every weekend on the boat in the summer we need something to keep the cabin cool on those hot and muggy New England nights.
BTW Jerry, I asked the previous owner about the radar arch and he said it was on the boat when he bought it.

Personally, I have no problem with the A/C. Trust me, I've seen a lot worse looking installations. Bottom line, if it keeps you cool and sleeping like a baby. So be it!
Do you have an on board gen or do you use it with shore power only?

Shore power, no generator on board. Not much of a need for A/C on the water because of the nice breezes we get. The marina is another story, not much of a breeze there which can make for some muggy nights.

Right now I use a Honda eu2000i to run my A/C on the water. Florida has lots of nights in the summer that require it especially on the ICW. Often it is blocked from the ocean breezes. Little Honda handles my A/C just fine.
I put it on the swim platform to all exhaust fumes are outside the cockpit and usually down wind.

I use a Honda eu2000i on my 88 Carver Voyager 28 as well.
I like its versatility. Great on the boat, great for boat projects in the boat yard, great as a home power backup unit.
I'll own it forever I think.
