Guys,
How did Carver have the duel batteries hooked up?
The PO had done some funky stuff, and I want to clean it up before
I drop the engines back in.

If I am right, the batteries hook up to the selector switch "A" and "B", and the common post feeds both the house DC loads, and is cabled to both engine starters. correct???

If this is right, then both engine alternators are trying to recharge what ever battery you have selected. Yes?

I have read that this set up can damage the alternators...

Any ideas?

I think I have my original owners manual wiring diagram. let me know if you need it and I'll see if I can find it.

If you can find the original, that would be great.
I'm thinking of using the Blue Sea switch that simply connects one battery to each engine, and will jump the two together if needed.
The only part of this I don't like, is the "house" loads will be on the same battery all the time.
I guess when you get up in the morning, you start the other engine, switch to the "connect" position and then start the dead one????

FWIW, I left mine like that and keep the switch on "ALL". I did however parallel another on each side, 4 batteries in all. works well. If I'm on the hook somewhere and need to recharge or run the A/C I carry a Honda eu2000i portable genny which works EXTREMELY well.

BlueSea also has an ACRs automatic charge relays that will automatically connect the batteries for you when there is charging voltage.
Nothing to remember to switch.
Works VERY well!
(I have 2 ACRs with 3 battery banks, Starting, House, & Audio)

You can use a good battery, something like an AGM, for the house battery, and a regular car battery for the starting battery.
The car versions are cheaper and actually better for starting.
Even a low cost deep cycle works good for starting.

FYI: If you change the alternators (Higher current), you will need to upgrade the circuit breakers on the engines accordingly.

How is the engine re-building going for you?

Hey Rock,
Welcome back.

Engines are both done, Transmissions are being OH in Florida.



I am in Dallas all week, and get my back surgery as soon as I get home, so no work will be done until first part of next year.

Still hoping to get her in the water next spring.
